2009 Nissan GT-R test drive
In recent months, we have been inundated with bargain supercars.
First there was the $112,000 Audi R8, then the $105,000 Chevrolet
Corvette ZR1. Now we have the 2009 Nissan GT-R, which features
twin-turbo power, computer-controlled all-wheel-drive, and a 0-60 time
under three and a half seconds, all for about the same price as a
nicely-loaded BMW 550i. Is the GT-R a bargain that's too good to be
true? Read on. $77,840 base, $80,090 as tested, EPA fuel economy
estimates 16 MPG city, 21 MPG highway.
Acura TL
However, this completely redesigned 2009 Acura TL has a lot of
practical necessity going for it. From the ground up, Acura listened to
customer suggestions and complaints to create a better car for the
people who really matter — those with the checkbooks. There's more
interior room, a more powerful V6 engine, new technology features and
lighter steering weighting to help with parking lot maneuvers. Although
our test car was a base front-drive model, there's also an available
all-wheel-drive model known as SH-AWD that adds a more powerful V6,
bigger wheels, better brakes, different steering tuning, more
supportive seats and differing exterior and interior trim.
Test Drive: 2009 Audi A4 3.2 Quattro - Design/Fit and Finish
The longer and wider stance of the 2009 Audi A4 instantly
telegraphs that the car means business. Unique-shaped LED daytime
running lamps, a cue borrowed from the R8, give the car an aggressive,
almost futuristic look. The design of the 18-inch wheels leaves the
calipers and much of the rotor surface exposed, which looks cool —
provided they stay clean and rust-free.
The build quality of the new A4 is consistent with Audi's good
reputation, especially on the inside. Smooth leather surfaces, along
with durable-looking plastic and soft-touch materials, make for a nice
combination of colors and textures. Small touches, like ambient
lighting underneath the driver seat, add to the premium feel.
Commack Lee Dodge Cars : Driving examiner strike
• Tests could be cancelled
• Candidates should turn up
• Theory tests unaffected
The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has said driving test
candidates, who have booked to sit a practical test on Monday, November
10, should attend despite the threat of industrial action by some
examiners.
A nationwide strike is planned by the Public and Commercial
Services union (PCS), which has some driving examiners among its
membership.
The DSA’s chief executive Rosemary Thew said: 'Not all examiners
are members of the PCS union and even if they are, we cannot be sure
that they will not turn up for work. We therefore want candidates to
attend so that practical tests can be delivered if possible.'
A new test date will automatically be booked for candidates whose appointment is cancelled due to the strike.
